Tom Hiddleston Transforms Into Hank Williams for ‘I Saw The Light’

Sony Pictures has released the first photo of actor Tom Hiddleston in character as Hank Williams for the new film, I Saw The Light.

The biopic will follow the story of Williams’ rise to fame and intense struggle with alcoholism. Hiddleston will star in the film alongside Elizabeth Olsen, who will play Williams’ wife and singing partner Audrey Sheppard Williams. Bradley Whitford, Maddie Hasson and David Krumholtz will also play notable characters that Williams meets during his journey to stardom.

Many have questioned the selection of a British film star to represent the legendary Alabama native. Hiddleston is best known for his more intense roles in major action-adventure films, including the Marvel superhero series The Avengers. Even though he has been performing Williams songs live in preparation for the role, not everyone has liked what they’ve heard. Williams’ grandson, Hank Williams III, publicly voiced his dislike for Hiddleston’s renditions earlier this year. While this photo shows just how similar the two are physically, we’ll all have to wait a little longer to see if his performance accurately represents one of the most important and well-known figures in country music history.

I Saw the Light will hit theaters nationwide on Nov. 27.
