Tom Cruise Awarded Massive Honor From U.S. Navy

Tom Cruise remains one of the biggest and most prestigious actors working today. He's earned the love and admiration from fans, critics, and award committees alike. However, it's not often a celebrity gets profound acknowledgement from the U.S. military of all places. Recently, BBC reports that the U.S. Navy presented Tom Cruise with the highest honor a civilian could receive, The Distinguished Public Service Award. They grant him such massive praise for "outstanding contributions" in helping the military through his work in film. Most notably, his work in the Top Gun series grants the military a spike in enlistment. US Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro handed Cruise the certificate and medal and acknowledges his work behind the scenes. "Tom Cruise has spent nearly four decades as an unwavering supporter of the men, women and families of the navy and marine corps," he says.

Cruise rejoices in receiving such an honor. Moreover, he notes how much he respects and cherishes the work and sacrifices the members of the military make. "I admire all of the servicemen and women. "I know in life, something that is very true to me, is that is to lead is to serve. And I know that to my core. And I see that in the servicemen and women," Tom says in his speech.

It doesn't seem like his work is stopping anytime soon either. Eventually, Cruise looks to reunite for a third installment for the Top Gun series, making it a trilogy. However, it seems like we'll be waiting for a while. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer shares that they don't have a script yet. "We've got some interesting ideas we've talked to Tom Cruise about, but we don't have a script yet. It will be a while," he says.
