Late 'Deadliest Catch' Deckhand Shared Emotional Message for His Kids Before Death

Working aboard a fishing vessel is incredibly dangerous. I am reminded of the film The Perfect Storm, which graphically depicts that hazardous profession. The same goes for the Discovery Channel series Deadliest Catch. It is not glamorous or breezy labor to get the fish that we eat for dinner. The work can (and sometimes does) cost someone their life. That is tragically what happened recently to the late Todd Meadows.

He was a deckhand on Deadliest Catch who died earlier this year after reportedly falling overboard. Meadows had worked on The Aleutian Lady for less than a year and had not yet been shown on the popular TV series, per The Los Angeles Times. According to TMZ, Meadows' death certificate from the state of Alaska said that he perished from "drowning with probable hypothermia" and "submersion of body in cold water." It was a very cruel fate for the young man. He was just 25 years old.

We now know about the heartbreaking message that Todd Meadows left for his children. In light of what sadly befell him, it is all the more excruciating to hear today.

Meadows Told His Children "Don't Let Anything Slow You Down"

Per People, the first episode of Season 22 of Deadliest Catch pays solemn homage to Todd Meadows. His words as a loving dad take on additional meaning now that he has passed away. He shared, "We're ready to get out there, and get fishing. It's been one of my dreams and goals to make it up here. I've been to Alaska a few times, but never to fish... Everything I've experienced up here, so far, is just so much bigger. Everything is scaled up. Smells different, feels different. There's a lot of risk that comes into it. But I just want my kids to work [toward] their dreams and goals and don't let anything slow you down."

A Captain Said That Meadows' Tragic Death Was Harrowing for Everyone

Captain Sig Hansen affirmed that Meadows' terrible accident affected many people intensely. He also shared with People, "That happened suddenly. I was actually with him and my crew before one of our trips. He was there with some guys from the Aleutian Lady. We shot a game of pool together, and he seemed like a very friendly fellow. He was very proud of his two kids."
