Todd and Julie Chrisley became two of the early eliminations in this year's The Masked Singer on Wednesday. The couple, who were the croissants, performed a rendition of Elvis Presley's "Jailhouse Rock" on the show, which was clearly a dead giveaway.
"The clues we knew had to be something that was gonna give it away," Todd admitted after the show. "And there were so many of them that were just so directly correlated to us and our life experiences, and I said, 'They're gonna figure this out quick.'"
The couple was convicted of tax fraud in 2022. Todd received a 12-year sentence and Julie a 7-year sentence. However, the couple received a full pardon from President Donald Trump. In total, they served 28 months of their sentences before the pardon.
During an interview with People, Todd revealed that The Masked Singer is the first thing he and Julie have done as a couple since being released.
"It was the first thing that Julie and I did together without the kids being around or anyone else around us since we came home, and it was our first time being away together," Todd admitted.
Todd and Julie Chrisley Defend Their Song Choice
It turns out that Todd and Julie's song choice wasn't to everyone's liking. When speaking with Page Six, Julie defended the song choice, explaining that everyone has a story to tell.
"It was our story," Julie said. "Everyone has a story, and your story doesn't have all good parts. I don't care who you are. So I think it was our time to own it, to move on from it, to say, 'OK, this was a part of our history, this was a part of our story. We lived through it, we survived it. And now we're ready to move on.'"
Todd also shared his thoughts on choosing to sing "Jailhouse Rock".
"I think for me, when I chose 'Jailhouse Rock,' it was me saying to the world, to the naysayers, 'I'm going to get here before you get here,'" Todd said. "'And you're not going to hold me hostage over something that was horrific in our life. You're not going to shame me for that. And I'm going to take possession of my own peace.' And so we leaned into it at that point."
Nevertheless, the couple's time on the show is now over. And while some fans were displeased with the song choice, their attentions will return to the remaining masked singers in due course. Who those singers are, though, remains anybody's guess.
