What Happened on the "Today" Show Set?
The incident occurred during the 3rd Hour of Today on Wednesday, Sep. 30, as medical contributor Dr. Natalie Azar discussed a new weight-loss drug and became distracted by a woman walking in the background.
"I just totally lost my train of thought," Dr. Azar told co-host Dylan Dreyer.
Dreyer said the incident wasn't the guest's fault, adding, "Well, Cecilia just walked behind you."
Co-host Craig Melvin then interrupted Dr. Azar as she tried to get back on track, asking, "Is that someone on the floor?!"
Dr. Azar laughed and asked, "What's happening?"
The camera then cut to Today show senior producer Cecilia Fang crouching down as she tried to move off camera.
Al Roker joked, "She's also in the witness protection program. So she didn't realize she was on camera." He then apologized to Dr. Azar.
Melvin added, "I don't think I've ever seen that. This place. Thank you for enduring the mayhem."
Dr. Azar then shared that she believed people were reacting to something she did.
"I thought something happened. I thought my blouse opened," Dr. Azar said with a laugh.
Melvin replied, "No, she just forgot we do live TV every morning at the same time."
Roker then quipped, "But please stand by because there might be a patient who died of embarrassment."
The Moment Follows Another Incident This Week
On Monday, Sep. 28, Roker walked off Today right after giving the forecast. Many viewers wondered if the meteorologist was okay.
Dreyer filled in for the 72-year-old for the rest of the show, but viewers never really got a clear explanation of what happened to Roker. Later that day, the TV personality explained on Instagram why he had to leave.
"Well, got out of the Today show early because I've got jury duty," he told followers. "It's everybody's civic duty to do the duty."
He then jokingly added, "I said duty twice!"
