Interestingly, McGraw will be playing a villainous role this time around.

According to Deadline, the country star is teaming with Kevin Bacon and Erin Kellyman in Hulu's upcoming drama Southern Bastards. Based on the award-winning graphic novel series by Jason Aaron and Jason Latour, who serve as executive producers, Southern Bastards chronicles a military veteran (Kellyman) returning to Alabama and confronting a violent organized crime ring led by a high school football coach (McGraw).

The project comes from Onyx Collective, POV Entertainment, and Proximity Media, in association with Fifth Season.

The Southern Bastards graphic novel series was released in 2014 and published by Image Comics. The story focuses on a small town in Alabama where three things reign supreme: barbecue, high school football, and organized crime.

Tim McGraw Gears for Hollywood Return

McGraw's Coach Boss is a publicly cherished football coach with a hidden, sinister agenda. He is the leader of a crime operation and is willing to resort to ruthless means to uphold it.

McGraw has previously appeared in Yellowstone, The Blind Side and Friday Night Lights, so he is no stranger to projects based in the South. Still, his latest role in Southern Bastards will unveil a darker, more violent approach not yet seen from the country singer.

The pilot for Southern Bastards was ordered in October 2025, and production is set to begin this month.

Aside from his acting endeavors, McGraw has still been actively making music.

His most recent song, "McArthur," featuring Morgan Wallen, Eric Church and HARDY, released on April 3.

McGraw will be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame later this year.

"Everything good in my life has come from Country Music," McGraw said. "From my best memories as a kid, to meeting my wife, to this music community, to the friendships I've made along the way. To represent Country Music at the highest level is the greatest honor anyone could bestow on me."

The Medallion Ceremony will be held in Nashville.
