Wilson Saw a Letter She Wrote to McGraw at the Country Music Hall of Fame

Wilson recently posted a precious YouTube video. It shows her visiting an exhibit about her life and career at the Country Music Hall of Fame. That was in July 2025, nearly a year ago. She stops and peers with fascination into a display case filled with Lainey Wilson memorabilia. Tickled by all the throwback items, Wilson spots a letter she wrote to McGraw when she was a kid. The tone of it was determined, mature, and ambitious.

She instantly read it aloud. It said: "Dear Mr. Tim McGraw, Singing, writing and performing are the most important things in my life. All I need is the opportunity, I can do the rest." Wilson and the people with her howled with good-natured laughter.

Then She Actually Met McGraw at CMA Fest

The video than leaps to the present. Over the weekend in Nashville, Lainey Wilson finally met her childhood hero. She and Tim McGraw were both slated to perform at CMA Fest. She said, "He don't understand how much of an influence he is to me. I made up dance routines to every song he ever had and I might show him."

When the two powerhouses actually met at the event, she is clearly dazzled and beaming with delight. A "childhood dream right here" is how Wilson described the very special and emotional moment.

He Had a Fantastic Surprise for Her

McGraw had a wonderful surprise in store for Lainey Wilson. He said he recently became aware of her adorable letter from years ago. Evidently, it touched him deeply to think that he inspired someone who made it to the top.

He told her backstage that he was "embarrassed" about not answering her at the time. So McGraw did the next best thing. He handed Wilson a letter that he wrote now in response to hers from long ago. "I wrote it as though I had gotten the letter. Had I gotten it then, this is what I would've said."

Bowled over, Wilson exclaimed, "You're going to make me cry. Don't mess my makeup up for this. Mama and Deddy are not going to believe this."

They took the CMA Fest stage together on Saturday, June 6. They did a duet of McGraw's track, "I Like It, I Love It." And Lainey Wilson at last had her long-awaited letter from Tim McGraw.
