On Oct. 4, Tim McGraw released his new song "Neon Church," a honky tonk heartbreaker filled with religious imagery. The song, written by Ross Ellis Lipsey, Ben Stennis and Ben Goldsmith, finds McGraw searching for salvation — not in the pews, but on a barstool.

"I need Jesus or I need whiskey/ Whatever works best to get me through gettin' over you," McGraw sings.
"A little Friday night Hallelujah, a congregation of backsliders just like me/ Yeah, what I need is a neon church."

McGraw gave fans a heads up on the new music by giving them a number to text for exclusive content and information.

In addition to "Neon Church," McGraw released the reflective "Thought About You," written by Lee Thomas Miller, Brad Warren and Brett Warren.

McGraw's upcoming project is his first solo album since 2015's Damn Country Music. He released The Rest of Our Life, a duet album with his wife Faith Hill, in 2017.

'Neon Church' Lyrics:

I need Jesus or I need whiskey
Whatever works best to get me through
Gettin' over you
A little Friday night Hallelujah
A congregation of backsliders just like me
Yeah, what I need

Is a neon church with a jukebox choir
Full of honky tonk angels with them wings on fire
Straight pourin' out that Johnny Walker healin'
I got a feelin' I need a neon church

Baptise me in that barroom smoke
Bartender preach to me 'til my heart ain't broke no more
Ain't that what this place is for
I tried bending these hands up prayin'
But damn if that heart don't just keep hanging around
What I need right now

Is a neon church with a jukebox choir
Full of honky tonk angels with them wings on fire
Straight pourin' out that Johnny Walker healin'
I got a feelin' I need a neon church

Get to sippin' that unholy water
Save that hurt like hell for tomorrow
I'll stay here all night

In a neon church, with a party crowd
Where the good times roll and the music's loud
Instead of home staring holes in the ceiling
I got a feelin'

I need a neon church with a jukebox choir
Full of honky tonk angels with them wings on fire
Straight pourin' out that Johnny Walker healin'
I got a feelin' I need a neon church
I need a neon church
