Country Music Icon Describes the Marriage Advice He Would Give to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce

Country superstars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill have been married for thirty years. For couples in the entertainment world, that is almost miraculous. They seem to be as much in love after all the ups and downs that life has flung at them during three decades. So McGraw is very well-qualified to give some marital advice to high-profile newlyweds Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. What he says is based on his own experience.

He recently did so in a candid and free-wheeling chat with Esquire's editor-in-chief, Michael Sebastian, on What I've Learned. And just to set the record straight, although he and Hill went to the opulent nuptials the famous twosome had in New York City last summer, he did not perform!

Don't Be Too Quick To Throw in the Towel

Tim McGraw told the outlet what is needed is "Just a commitment that you want it to work. People are so easy to walk away from troubled times or bad times, or times where you don't get along. But going into a marriage and being in a marriage for a long time, you start to realize that, yeah, there are gonna be times you don't like each other. There are times you don't get along ... but that's not a reason to walk out the door."

He mentioned that he and Hill decided not to give up on their marriage anytime that things got tough. "We made a commitment early on in our lives that [leaving] wasn't going to be our first response to any kind of fight or any kind of disagreement. Because the more you do that, that starts opening the door for that choice. It lessens the commitment, and it lessens the pride and respect that you have in your marriage."

He Recognizes That "People Change"

He is undoubtedly different today than when he wed Hill many years ago. And surely she has changed as well. However, that does not have to be a reason to split up or drift apart. Tim McGraw wisely said, "You change as you grow older. And you change individually as you grow older, and you change as a couple as you grow older in time spent together. And so the beauty, I think, in a long marriage, is you get the chance to fall in love with a new person every so often. Because people change."
