"She's Magic": Tim McGraw Credits Wife Faith Hill With Helping Him Turn His Life Around

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill have a marriage that is solid as a rock. He spoke recently about her impact on his life and career.

You might think that two stars in the country music industry would have a hard time making their marriage work. Competing over egos, schedules, and popularity can destroy a relationship fast. Not for Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, though. Their union has endured for almost thirty years. Parents to three daughters, McGraw and Hill seem as much in love now as they did way back. But as he explained recently when he was on The Tim Ferriss Show, Hill also helped him get his life back on track. She has been an indispensable partner.

McGraw Was Overwhelmed by His Success

The "I Like It, I Love It" singer said that years ago, he was reveling in his first heady professional success. Except he was doing it destructively. As well as his work was going, McGraw's personal life was dangerously spiraling toward the edge of a cliff.

He told Tim Ferriss, "I was drinking a lot. That didn't stop after we got married, but she beat it out of me after a while. I was just doing everything. I was a kid in a candy store. Especially after I got successful. I had never had any money before, never been around any of that stuff before. Then all of the sudden, it became a tool that was useful until it wasn't. When Faith came along, I was burning it wide open. She started tapping the brakes for me."

He Had To Shape up Radically To Keep Hill

McGraw knew that Faith Hill would not hang around for long if he did not get his act together. He saw that then. And he still remembers it now. Meeting her was the wake-up call McGraw sorely needed.

He confided, "Once I met her, I didn't want to lose her. She's magic. Not just her singing and her looks. Of course, that's all a bonus. But as a person, she's just magic. She just lights up a room, and she lit me up. And still does. I wouldn't be the same artist had I not met her."

McGraw added, "I certainly wouldn't have the career that I've had, had I not met her. I would have burned out really quickly, I think. Especially if I had lost her after I found her... I definitely would have been in downward spiral."
