During that period, the golfer was absent from social media. But on this special day, however, the 50-year-old Woods made an exception and shared a message about why the holiday is important to him.

What Did Tiger Woods Say?

Woods' father, Earl, is perhaps best known as the one who introduced Tiger to the sport of golf. He also completed two combat tours in Vietnam as an infantry officer and Green Beret. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel.

Tiger's first message to fans after his rehab stay was a heartfelt tribute to his father's two decades of service. He posted it on Instagram Stories.

"My father was a Special Forces operator with two tours in Vietnam and 20 years of service," Tiger wrote. "To all those like my father, we all say thank you for your sacrifices. Without them we wouldn't have the greatest country on Earth."

Earl died in 2006 at the age of 74.

Why Was Tiger Woods in Rehab?

Back in March, authorities arrested Tiger after he crashed his Range Rover in Florida. They found him to not only be impaired but also discovered two hydrocodone pills in his pocket.

Tiger allegedly refused a urinalysis. Authorities state that they believe he was "not impaired by alcohol but possibly by medication or another substance." After his arrest, Tiger made a statement.

"I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today," he said. "I'm committed to taking the time needed to return in a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally. I appreciate your understanding and support and ask for privacy for my family, loved ones and myself at this time."

Tiger then went to a rehab facility abroad. According to reports, his desire to return to golf was the motivation behind his recovery.

"He knows he needs to beat his issues and also deal with the pain from not only playing golf but also from his regular fitness schedule," a source explained. "People around him are supporting him, both personally and professionally. All of this is helping him deal with it enough to get through it."
