Surprise! Thomas Rhett and his wife Lauren are expecting not one, but two new bundles of joy.
The couple revealed to People that they began the process of adopting a baby from Africa last year. The two then decided to stop trying to conceive on their own for the foreseeable future.
"When we began the adoption process, we said, 'Let's wait, let's give this adopted child his or her time with us and then we'll continue our family,'" Lauren says. When she began feeling ill during a visit to Tanzania in December, she was sure she wasn't pregnant.
"I was convinced it was food poisoning," she explained. While Rhett and trip mates Tyler Hubbard from Florida Georgia Line and wife Hayley headed to the gym, Lauren took a pregnancy test. When Thomas returned, he was shocked to find that the test was positive.
"I was in complete and utter shock!" he says. "No one is ever prepared for something like that. It is almost like we suddenly had twins."
The two hope to finalize their adoption before their other baby is born in August. Until then, the couple are preparing for their exciting new arrivals. Rhett says he's even converted his Home Team tour bus into a baby-friendly zone so they can join him out on the road.
