Hilary Duff just proved that exes can get along after a breakup.

The pop singer and former Disney star recently performed in New York City, and she brought out one of her ghosts of boyfriends past to join her onstage.

The moment took place yesterday, Aug. 5, at Madison Square Garden. It was the first of the 38-year-old's two sold-out shows at the storied venue.
At one point in her show, the Lizzie McGuire actress came onstage wearing an oversized T-shirt. As reported by PEOPLE, the shirt has been different for each stop on Duff's tour. But the one she wore yesterday didn't really have the Y2K theme like the ones worn at previous stops.
It was some merch for the beloved pop-punk band Good Charlotte. And as some readers may be aware, Duff and band member Joel Madden dated from 2004 to 2006.
"New York, you know I would never come here and not have a surprise for you," Duff teased. "New York City, can you please give the warmest welcome to my friends Good Charlotte!"
Duff then joined her ex's band for a performance of its hit, "The Anthem."
Do Duff and Joel Madden Get Along?
Apparently Duff and Madden have been friends since their breakup 20 years ago.
Of course, the two have moved on and now have families of their own. Duff has four children with husband Matthew Koma. Madden married reality star Nicole Richie, and they have two children.
After the show, the two couples posed for a picture together backstage. Madden's twin brother, Benji, posted it on his Instagram Stories, with Duff, Koma, and Joel reposting it.
"FAMILY NIGHT @MSG Congrats @hilaryduff @matthewkoma @nicolerichie @joelmadden love yall," he wrote.
According to Setlist.fm, Duff saved her signature song from her Lizzie McGuire years for last: "What Dreams Are Made Of." Last year, the singer admitted she doesn't even remember recording the track.
"But I will say now I love it," explained Duff at the time. "And when I was filming the movie, I loved it. It was just — it was a weird time....Actually, when I sing it now, I feel a lot of joy. I just think that there was such a separation back then of me and my music and Lizzie McGuire"
