The "Bitin' List" artist just announced that he and his wife, Senora May, are expecting their second child.
But he also used the moment to discuss a topic that is affecting rural communities. It's also an issue that hits close to home. We have the details below.
Tyler Childers Says His Second Child Is Expected This Summer
On an Instagram Stories post from Feb. 11, Childers shared when his family's latest addition is expected to arrive. However, that announcement was buried in a message about the vital role of medical care in rural communities.
"Saddened to hear about the impending closure of the birthing center at Ephraim McDowell," Childers said. "In Sept of 2022, Senora gave birth to our baby boy here. We were intending on going here for the birth of our second baby, who we are expecting later this summer."
He added, "This birthing center is a vital part of maternal care in the Stanford area. It would greatly affect the Amish community surrounding the birthing center as well. The birthing center is a top notch medical facility that Kentucky should be proud of."
The Facility Will Close Next Week
Childers' words were typed over a screenshot of a local news report about expectant mothers protesting the closure of the birthing center at Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford, Kentucky.
"They don't see birth as a medical event," one mother told WKYT in the report. "They see it as something that can drastically change your life."
Last month, Ephraim McDowell Health shared its plans to move labor and delivery services from Fort Logan Hospital to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in nearby Danville.
"To better meet the needs of mothers and babies in our community, effective February 16, 2026, inpatient labor and delivery services will be moved to Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center," read the announcement. "Here, mothers and babies will have immediate access to neonatologists and a Level II Special Care Nursery should the need arise, in addition to all the amenities of our private birthing suites featured here."
Ephraim McDowell Health also said it plans to work with emergency services to ensure families in the Stanford are receive the care they need.
