On Monday night's (Oct. 23) episode of "The Voice," singers from each team took the stage to compete against one of their fellow team members in the battles. The last pairing of the night featured two talented singers from Team Reba: Ms. Monet and Corii. They put on a performance that stunned McEntire and the other coaches.
McEntire chose Patti LaBelle's "New Attitude" for the battle round, and before the singers took the big stage, they rehearsed with the country legend herself. The rehearsal is usually a time to smooth out any issues before the performance, but when Ms. Monet and Corii stepped up to the microphones, they already sounded like a seasoned duo. As they showcased their incredible vocals, McEntire became a bit overwhelmed, stepping out of her seat and physically laying on the floor after the first run-through. After lying there for a moment, McEntire got up and expressed just how impressive their performance was.
Ms. Monet and Corii brought that same energy to "The Voice" stage on the night of the battles. They showcased their individual voices while connecting with one another onstage and showing off a few dance moves. Both singers impressed coaches with their vocal range, and Legend, specifically, was enthused when Ms. Monet brought out a terrific whistle note. The performance earned a standing ovation from all four coaches.
The rendition had Niall Horan wondering why he didn't turn for Corii during the blind audition, calling her improvement "night and day." Gwen Stefani praised Ms. Monet's performance, calling her "masterful." She also complimented Corii for being able to "lock in" to her voice during the performance. John Legend echoed these comments, commending Corii for stepping up to the challenge and pairing Ms. Monet's consistent talent.
McEntire shared the pride she holds in each singer and decried the difficulty of her decision. Clearly undecided, McEntire even asked host Carson Daly who she should choose. In the end, it was only her decision, and she chose Ms. Monet as the winner of the battle.
"She's just so much of a powerhouse. Great stage presence," McEntire said. "I was just blown away with her and I'm so glad she was on my team."
It wasn't the last song for Corii, though. While thanking McEntire for the opportunity, she was stolen by both Niall Horan and Gwen Stefani. They then battled it out to have Corii on their team.
"The Voice" airs on Monday and Tuesday nights on NBC.
