'The Voice': San Antonio Singer Earns Four-Chair Turn With Haunting Performance of a '60s Classic

Rudi's rendition of Lesley Gore's "You Don't Own Me" earned four chair turns.

It takes true talent to earn a four-chair turn on The Voice, and 28-year-old Rudi achieved that with a classic tune on Monday night's (Oct. 2) episode. The singer performed Lesley Gore's 1963 song "You Don't Own Me," turning the song into even more of an empowering anthem than it already is.

Dressed in a denim outfit with sparkles and rhinestones, Rudi made the song her own, showcasing her strong vocal range and complex runs. The performance also included an impressive key change as Rudi sang with confidence while strutting on the stage.

Gwen Stefani was the first coach to turn her chair, and she was visibly excited about the prospect of having Rudi on her team. Niall Horan, John Legend and Reba McEntire quickly followed, earning Rudi a four-chair turn. However, upon turning their chairs, it became apparent that Legend was blocked by Horan.

Legend immediately showed his disappointment by walking slowly onto the stage. Horan ran right over to start a little pretend fight with Legend. Stefani, of course, had no problem with Legend being blocked, saying it gave her "euphoria." McEntire, on the other hand, just tried to ignore the noise.

McEntire complimented Rudi's performance, saying it was meaningful and "persuasive." When Stefani began to speak, Rudi had a bit of a fan moment, and Stefani praised the singer's vocal control. Additionally, Stefani told Rudi she had "amazing style" and was "gorgeous," which made the singer bubble up with excitement.

Rudi, who's from San Antonio, then spoke of trying to make a living as a musician and moving back home to work at her dad's auto body shop. Stefani related this to her own experience of living at home until she was 26 and working her way up as a member of her band No Doubt.

Horan also did his best to win over Rudi, but Legend joked that it will "all be for naught" since Rudi is such a big fan of Stefani. Still, Horan told her she already looks like a star and said it would be a "dream" to work with her.

Rudi deliberated for a little while, but she couldn't pass up the opportunity to join Stefani's team.
