'The Voice': Niall Horan Thinks Gwen Stefani Should Apologize After This Battle Round

Horan said the performance was 'magic'

"The Voice" aired the third night of the battles on Tuesday, Oct. 24, and the night saw more powerhouse performances and tight competition between contestants. Coach Gwen Stefani paired team members Calla Prejean and Chechi Sarai to compete, and she chose Lady Gaga's high-flying song "I'll Never Love Again."

The emotional song Gaga performs during the last scene of the motion picture "A Star Is Born" is undeniably challenging with its soaring high notes, but Prejean and Sarai took it all in stride. The two have different voices, but the performance gave them a chance to showcase their individual strengths. Prejean showcased her lower register, the soft qualities of her voice and her ability to sing runs, whereas Chechi showed her vocal range and power.

The coaches praised the artists for their performance — particularly Sarai's range and the "whisper" quality of Prejean's voice — while also commenting on the challenging nature of the song. Reba McEntire called the range of the song "crazy," but said the women covered it "to perfection." Horan then jokingly remarked that perhaps Stefani should offer an apology for the song choice.

"Girls, that was magic. That's such a tough song to take on, first of all," he says. "She should really apologize."

"You come on 'The Voice,' you better bring it!" Stefani responded.

Horan then complimented their performances using some words he learned from John Legend.

Stefani found herself in a tough place with her decision. She said Prejean's performance was "perfect" and praised Sarai's performance as worthy of the Grammys. Stefani also mentioned that she sensed a lack of confidence in Sarai, which she will have to work on in the future.

"I'm gonna just have to spank you, like no," she said, much to the entertainment of the other coaches.

In the end, Stefani chose Sarai to move forward in the competition. Catch "The Voice" on Monday and Tuesday nights on NBC.
