"The Voice" continued with night three of the Blind Auditions on Monday (March 4), and the coaches were blown away by the first singer. That audition came from 49-year-old Bryan Olesen, who spent much of his career as the guitarist for Christian band the Newsboys. Now, on the "The Voice" stage, Olesen was hoping to shock the coaches with his rendition of OneRepublic's "Love Runs Out."
Olesen only needed to sing two lines — which showcased his power and range — before John Legend, Dan + Shay and Reba McEntire turned their chairs. He sang the rest of the verse a cappella before catapulting into the energetic chorus and showing off his rockstar style. The rendition not only demonstrated his vocal talent, but his stage presence was also impressive as he gave everything he had to the performance.
Each coach that turned around looked ecstatic about Olesen upon hearing his voice. McEntire put on her game face, saying, "Let the games begin."
She continued, giving her best pitch to for Olesen to join her team.
"That was a performance I felt before seeing anything," McEntire said. "When I did turn around, the package was complete. . . I love the song, I love your style, the pitch, everything was great. The tone, your attitude, your dance moves. Way to go."
When Legend spoke, he asked Olesen if he truly understands what he did onstage. He then handed the singer a massive compliment.
"I want to be clear about how great that performance was," Legend said. "That was the best audition we've seen."
Legend added that Olesen has everything needed to be a "superstar."
Dan + Shay were also blown away by the performance. Shay Mooney even said he thought they were getting "punked" when they first heard Olesen's voice.
As the coaches spoke to Olesen, the contestant brought his daughter to the stage, who he mentioned also sings. The two then sang a rendition of Corinne Bailey Rae's "Girl Put Your Records On."
In the end, Olesen chose to join Team Legend as he continues his journey on "The Voice."
