Gwen Stefani Uses a 'Lesson from Blake' to Get Singer on Her Team

Gwen Stefani learned from the best.

Gwen Stefani pulled a move from the Blake Shelton playbook on Tuesday (Oct. 3) to land Jason Arcilla over her top competitor, fellow judge Reba McEntire. Stefani blocked McEntire —the only other coach to turn their chair— from claiming Arcilla.

After being teased by John Legend for pulling a Blake, Stefani lightened the mood with kindness.

"Reba and I have gone head-to-head a few times now, and I guess we have similar tastes in music," Stefani said. "But I don't like fighting against her."

"Can you believe Gwen blocked me?" McEntire responded. "I was just sitting over here minding my own business. We'll see how that fares."

Stefani wanted Arcilla for her team as she took in his soulful cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams."

"This is a hard song to do," Stefani said. "We all love the original. Stevie's voice is so recognizable, but the more that I listened, the more I was like, 'oh my God. this guy is unique sounding'."

A native of Hawaii, 34-year-old Arcilla said he selected the Fleetwood Mac classic because it reminds him of time spent back home with his mother. Arcilla favors reggae-tinged covers of classic rock songs. The singer stepped away from music for a decade to focus on raising his daughter.

"I actually had her when I was in high school. It was a baby raising a baby. and I was forced to grow up. Me and mom split up, and I became a single father," Arcilla shared. "Now, I can show my daughter who I am and she's going to be able to see her dad putting himself out there."

Arcilla joins Chechi Sarai, Rudi, Jacquie Roar, Joslynn Rose, Juliette Ojeda, Jenna Marquis, Kristen Brown and Bias on Team Gwen.
