A case of mistaken identity had elder Millennials and fans of The Voice reeling, thinking a beloved TV host was dead.

Tennessee Congressman Tim Burchett took to social media earlier today (Oct. 23) with a somber video mourning the loss of an old friend.
"One of the things about getting older is that people around you die," Burchett began in his video, seemingly taking a morning walk outside. "A really good, good man, Carson Dailey, passed away, [he] had cancer. He was a county commissioner when I was mayor; he was always a good supporter and one of those guys that just did his job."
He went on to say his friend was "just concerned about getting the job done. Not a lot of headlines, just always doing what was right."
"I am terribly sorry he passed away, but I think our community is much better because of people like him," he added, before urging people to appreciate the ones you love while they're still here.
While Burchett's heartfelt message was well said and anyone watching the video would understand the context, the 62-year-old politician made something of a social media miscalculation...
He captioned his post simply: "Carson Daly was a very good man, and he will be missed."
First off, he misspelled his friend and colleague's name, which is spelled Carson Dailey. Secondly, Carson Daly just happens to be a veteran TV personality who currently hosts The Voice and made his name as the ringleader of MTV's wildly popular Total Request Live back in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
Needless to say, denizens of X took the news in stride and didn't freak out.
'The Voice' and 'TRL' React After Thinking Carson Daly Kicked the Bucket
Okay, maybe not.
"You just scared the sh— out of an entire generation," one X user replied to the post. "Carson DAILEY passed away ... not CARSON DALY. Millennials of the TRL days...relax," another X user wrote. "Big difference! Thanks for clarifying. This will cause some confusion!" yet another X user shot back.
Meanwhile, despite Burchett's apparent grief, other folks on social media came at the politician for the gaffe.
"@NBCTheVoice wants nothing to do with your idiocy. Learn to spell," a less-than-charitable person added. "Sounds like you were close, given that you couldn't even spell his name properly..." yet another X user echoed.
Regardless, The Voice and Today host is alive and well. The TV personality Carson Daly posted to Instagram just yesterday.
