Hostin Calls Clarkson "Petty" Over Art Store Fiasco
The Bird Gate saga between Kelly Clarkson and Brooklyn art shop Art of Play took another wild turn. Video footage surfaced online this week.
To bring things up to speed, Clarkson claimed she was treated unfairly at Art of Play. When she visited the store in October. Once she was in the store, Clarkson inquired about purchasing a mechanical bird. She suggested that the store employees insinuated that she could not afford it, unaware of her celebrity status.
But after viewing the viral clip, The View host suggested that it looked like the American Idol alum had a "tantrum" inside of the art shop.
"It seems like she kind of had a bit of a tantrum because she starts putting things back kind of quickly," Hostin said (via Page Six),
In the aftermath, Clarkson took to social media to call out the art shop to her millions of followers. And the store has since claimed that they had received threats as a result. Hostin noted that because of Clarkson's celebrity status, she has a "responsibility" to use discretion when using her platform.
"When you have a huge platform, there comes a lot of responsibility with that. I just can't imagine that she doesn't know that there's that social media mob hanging out on the internet," Hostin added.
"The rage machine is something I'm sure she has been subjected to because she's a star. The video did change my perspective a little bit.""
In a statement following the fiasco, Art of Play said: "It's been a surreal experience to be the focus of such widespread outrage after just one mention by a celebrity."
