There have been mixed responses to Carrie Underwood's decision to perform at Trump's inauguration. Some believe it makes her a true blue patriot, while others disagree. There has been a lot of discourse about it, as is to be expected.
Underwood was never an outspoken Trump supporter before, but she's happy to be the centerpiece of his big day. Some see this as a betrayal, while others understand her decision. The hosts of The View had a lot to say about Underwood and Trump.
The discourse on The View was fairly two-sided. But, the general consensus was that none of them would lower themselves to actually perform. Her choice could be understood, but it wasn't one they would ever make themselves.
Her Decision Is Her Own, But It's Shared By The View
Joy Behar went in on Underwood initially, blasting her for her decision to sing for Trump. "She says 'I love our country.' How do you love your country and support and normalize somebody who was a convicted felon who really wants to destroy the country, in my opinion? I don't understand how you say you love your country at the same time that you normalize this convicted felon."
Her rant in The View is outrage at the fact Underwood is willing to support Trump despite the fact he is a criminal. But, some of the other hosts backed up her decision. "People do what they do for whatever reasons. It's like Joe and Mika. They felt that's what they needed to do and I got to stand behind them, you know and I stand behind her," Whoopi Goldberg said.
But, Behar doubled back on her opinions of the Underwood Trump debacle on The View. "I would not be the person to say don't do it, because I believe in free speech and everything about it. I personally would not do it," she said.
In the land of the free, decisions and speech need to be without borders. The hosts of The View understand this, and won't try to suppress it. They know that Underwood will have to deal with the fallout of her Trump support, both good and bad.
