Farewell, Riley Green! The country singer had a guest-starring role on the CBS Yellowstone spinoff Marshals. He was on the April 19, April 26, May 3, and May 10 episodes. Green played Garrett, an ex Navy SEAL buddy of Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes). Garrett showed up in Montana with no warning. He was supposedly hoping to find the peace that has eluded him since his traumatic military experiences in Afghanistan. (Spoiler alert!) However, Garrett was suddenly and shockingly killed off the show on May 10. How come? We never guessed that plot twist was in the offing!

Garrett Passed Away From Old Injuries
Per People, Riley Green's character on the drama was hurt in a fire long ago. A doctor tells Kayce and Cal what happened. "The damage from the fire meant he wasn't getting enough oxygen into his body. The strain of it all was too much on his heart."
The two men are stunned as they stand beside the vacant bed in a hospital, trying to absorb the news about their pal. Kayce utters an epitaph of sorts. "The best of us don't come home." He already lost his wife, Monica (Kelsey Asbille). Now, Kayce must cope with this new death of someone close to him.
A Longtime Dispute Between Kayce and Cal Had Just Been Resolved
Garrett's passing comes at an ironic time. Kayce has always felt that Cal was responsible for abandoning a colleague during their time in Afghanistan. Turns out that man lost his life as a result. As Kayce now learns from Cal, it was actually Garrett who messed up, leading to the fatal outcome. As Cal explains to Kayce, "I just thought burying the truth was best for double G, but maybe digging it up gives us three a chance to move forward." But Garrett tragically dies before that can happen.
Playing the Role Challenged Riley Green Emotionally
The popular "Worst Way" crooner said to People previously about Garrett, "This guy was somebody that really had a lot of deep emotional problems from things that had happened to him in the past. And when you haven't lived those, you really kind of just rely on feedback from other people in the room."
