Song Premiere: The Smoking Flowers' 'Let's Get Happy'

East Nashville Americana duo The Smoking Flowers, made up of Kim and Scott Collins, are gearing up to release their new album Snowball Out of Hell (out on June 14). The album was recorded while Kim battled and beat breast cancer, an experience that shaped the sound and energy of the record.

"Let's Get Happy," which features John McCauley of the rock band Deer Tick, is a slow-burning, harmony-laden song of perseverance and optimism.

"We reimagined 'Let's Get Happy' for the Snowball Out Of Hell album in honor of one of our past bands, The Buddies, an underground alt-punk band that we co-founded several years ago with friends out of Chicago," the duo tells Wide Open Country. "John McCauley of the band Deer Tick was a fan of The Buddies and was gracious enough to come hang out in the studio and lend a third part 'harmony' on the song when we recorded it. This version, we believe in our hearts, is probably more true to how the songwriter and co-founder of The Buddies, Coley Kennedy, originally envisioned it."
