Despite the controversy over headlining the All-American Halftime Show, Kid Rock came out relatively unscathed.

Well, there were allegations that the "Bawitdaba" singer lip-synced his performance (which he has denied). Then, the South Carolina dates of his Rock the Country festival were canceled because multiple artists had pulled out of the lineup.
But Kid Rock does have the top song on the Hot Christian 100 chart this week with his cover of Cody Johnson's "Till You Can't." He performed the song at the alternate halftime event, so apparently, playing to over five million people online does have its benefits.
But another seemingly un-Christian thing has Kid Rock back in the headlines. A clip of the singer on The Joe Rogan Experience has him claiming to be Tom Petty's weed dealer.
Wait..Kid Rock Sold Weed to Tom Petty?
That's what he claimed last year when he was on Rogan's show. To hear him tell it, it certainly seems possible.
"He would come to town," said Kid Rock. "He married a girl from Saginaw, Michigan. I forget her name; great, great girl. And they would come to, you know, outside Detroit where I lived, and I'd get this call like, 'Hey, can you get Tom some weed?'"
A simple Google search shows that Dana York Petty, the "Refugee" singer's second wife, grew up in Genesee County, Michigan. It is near Saginaw, but yeah, Kid Rock is in the ballpark.
When he got the call, he would talk to his brother and friends to score some bud. He would then hand-deliver it to Petty himself.
"I'd be like, 'This is f*****g awesome,' because I love Tom Petty," Kid Rock shared. "I didn't really know him. So I'd go up there and drop the weed off. And I'd be in his dressing room, and like, he'd be like, 'So what's up, man?' I'd be like, 'Nothing.'"
While Rock was a fan, he said that he and Petty had "nothing in common."
Petty died in 2017 when he was 66 after suffering from cardiac arrest. His death was ruled an accidental overdose caused by multiple medications taken to treat various health issues, including a fractured hip.
