The Reason Barbara Walters and Clint Eastwood Never Got in a Relationship

It seems tricky trying to find romance in the entertainment business. Mixing love and money together can be a recipe for disaster if both parties aren't smart about it. If this idea goes for friends, it definitely applies in the dating realm. There are examples of it working; two people in an industry they both understand can be incredibly refreshing. However, this isn't the case for everybody. Moreover, it's the reason why Barbara Walters and Clint Eastwood never got together.

Recently, a new documentary came out surrounding Walters, reflecting on her illustrious career in journalism and how she's paved the way for new female reporters. One moment hones in on her time with Eastwood back in 1982. The pair spoke on the actor's ranch, where they talk about how Clint tends to keep his feelings bottled up. Barbara wasn't buying it though, flirting that she would pull that out of him. "You would drive me nuts, and I would drive you crazy because I would be saying, 'But didn't you? Or haven't you?'" she says.

Eastwood smirks, "Well, we could try it and see if it worked out."

Why Barbara Walters and Clint Eastwood Never Worked Out

The two laugh it off and keep playing around the idea before reloading the camera as everyone laughs on set. In the documentary, different people mused on her love life. "Barbara had her fill of romance," gossip columnist Cindy Williams says. "She thought a lot of guys were sexy. She was interested in the possibility of sex, she liked men."

"[Walters] was never cynical about love, and she was definitely a romantic kind of person," makeup artist Lori Klein adds. "But romance just never worked in her life for long."

This isn't to say Clint Eastwood certainly didn't try his hand at trying to date Barbara Walters. However, she told Jimmy Fallon back in 2014 that she turned down a night out with the actor for work duties. "This is a sad love story," Walters sighs. "I did this interview with Clint Eastwood something like 30 years ago. He was very flirtatious, and I was very taken (with him). He asked me if I wanted to have dinner... and I said, 'No, I have to work.' You know, I don't mix business with pleasure. I could have been Mrs. Clint Eastwood!"
