Diners panicked and threw themselves to the ground after a bullet smashed through a window and cracked into a painting on the opposite wall. Whizzing right through the dining area, it's a miracle no one was hurt.

According to CBS, the Woodbridge Inn, a steakhouse in Woodbridge, Virginia, was a victim of a random gunshot. Harrowingly, four to five mysterious gunshots were heard, but only one made it through the restaurant. It is likely that this was a stray bullet, and that the steakhouse was not an intended target.

The bullet struck a painting on the other wall that was hanging above where a couple were dining. The glass cracked and shards rained on the patrons.

Whoever shot the bullet is still out there; despite police efforts, the case remains an enigmatic one. The owner of the steakhouse, Craig Quijada, told the outlet that the bullets came from "across the lake, directly from the homeless encampment on the other side."

However, after a drone flyover, investigators have not been able to confirm if the shots were fired from a homeless encampment, or even if there is one in the area.

Witnesses Recount Their Horror Dining Experience

Speaking to CBS, witnesses described what it was like to have a bullet interrupt your dinner.

Kenny Buchmiller was eating with his wife Mandy at the moment of the incident. "I immediately grabbed her and threw her to the floor and covered her and told her to stay down."

"I'd say we were probably six feet away from where the bullet traveled, but there were some people directly in the line, just below. Fortunately, the bullet went high."

"We kind of army crawled from where we were sitting into the bar area. There was a couple that was sitting right below the wall where the bullet lodged in and the glass had broken and went all over her," he continued.

"It makes me really scared for the people who were right next to it," added Mandy.

It's a wonder no one got hurt, although it does raise alarms for those living in the area.
