'The Godfather III' Star Dies at 65 After Medical Emergency

Actor Anthony Guidera, known for roles in The Godfather Part III and Species, has died at the age of 65 after suffering a medical emergency.

Anthony Guidera, the actor known for his roles in The Godfather Part III and Species, has died at the age of 65.

Guidera's wife, Valarie Anderson, told TMZ that her husband suddenly collapsed on May 11 while in the living room of their Southern California home.

According to the report, his heart stopped beating and he was rushed to hospital, where he remained on life support for three weeks.

Actor Dies After Medical Emergency

TMZ reported that doctors ultimately removed Guidera from life support in accordance with a prior directive.

The decision allowed him to return home, where he could experience what Anderson described as a "natural death."

Guidera passed away on Saturday.

At this time, the cause of death remains unknown. Anderson said doctors "have no clue" what caused the initial collapse or why his heart suddenly stopped.

In the days following his death, Anderson shared an emotional tribute on social media.

"We are devastated and trying to breathe through the impossible, taking each moment as it comes," the post reads. "Please hold his eternal light in your hearts and his family in your prayers."

Career Included Roles in Hollywood Blockbusters

Born in San Francisco in 1960, Guidera launched his acting career with a role in The Godfather Part III, playing "Anthony, the Bodyguard".

The film featured an all-star cast that included Al Pacino, Diane Keaton, and Talia Shire, and went on to gross an estimated $136.9 million worldwide against a reported $54 million budget.

Five years later, Guidera appeared in Species, playing "Robbie, Guy Picking Up Sil".

He also featured in several major Hollywood productions, including The Rock, The Postman, and Armageddon.

In 1996, Guidera and co-star Natasha Henstridge won the MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss for their work in Species.

Beyond film, he made guest appearances in a number of popular television series, including Renegade, Baywatch, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Angel.

According to IMDb, Guidera's final screen credit came in 2005, when he portrayed Jude in the comedy-crime film L.A. Dicks.

His passing marks the loss of a familiar face whose work spanned film and television throughout the 1990s and early 2000s.
