The 'Fixer Upper' Effect: Waco Among Most-Searched Zip Codes of 2016

At the end of 2016, realtor.com released a list of the most-searched zip codes of the year. One state dominated the list: Texas. Surprisingly, Waco took three of the top spots, and it may have to do with the popularity of HGTV's hit show, Fixer Upper.

Ever since Chip and Joanna Gaines' renovation show Fixer Upper came into the limelight, it seems that a lot of folks wants to move to Waco.

"The show has been a draw," Magnolia Realty's Pamila Johnson told realtor.com. "People are moving here from all over the United States. When they see the kind of house they can get and the value in Waco, they've been coming in droves."

Fixer Upper is hugely popular in part because it's not just about their renovation projects. It emphasizes family values, the Gaines' love for each other, and how they showcase their love for Waco. The audience feels like they wants to be a part of it what they are creating in Waco.

The Gaines have several projects in the Texas city. Their Magnolia Market has become hugely popular, and they also plan to open a new restaurant early next year.
