It's fair to say that Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show was the most controversial in history. Before he'd even taken to the stage, a lot of people had already made their minds up on the performance. In fact, in the months leading up to the Super Bowl, a petition on Change.Org, calling for Bad Bunny to be replaced by George Strait, hit over 130,000 signatures.

And while the NFL chose to push ahead with Bad Bunny, it would appear that a country music star is the early favorite to be selected for the 2027 halftime show. According to FanDuel, Morgan Wallen is the odds-on favorite to be selected, with odds of +1120.
The top five artists that FanDuel clearly believes are in the mix are: Harry Styles (+1040), Ariana Grande (+920), Drake (+880) and J Cole (+880).
While any of those top five would be a solid choice, Wallen deserves his spot on the world's biggest stage. He's arguably the biggest country music star in the world right now. He sells out wherever he goes, both in the US and abroad. And, he would appease a growing number of fans that want to see the Super Bowl return to its country roots.
Morgan Wallen Has a Controversial Past
Back in 2021, Wallen was banned from the CMA Awards. His enforced absence was due to an ongoing racial slur scandal. He had been filmed saying the slur outside of his Nashville home.
"I'm embarrassed and sorry. I used an unacceptable and inappropriate racial slur that I wish I could take back," Wallen said in a statement given to ET at the time. "There are no excuses to use this type of language, ever. I want to sincerely apologize for using the word. I promise to do better."
Wallen has bounced back from that scandal in a big way. However, given the controversy surrounding the selection of Bad Bunny, it's fair to assume the NFL may think twice about placing Wallen as the headliner, at least on the back of the 2026 Super Bowl.
Still, there's no denying the reach that Wallen has, both with die-hard country fans and the wider public. With him headlining the halftime show, the viewership numbers would likely skyrocket. But, with so many other choices available, nothing is guaranteed at this early stage.
