The 7 Best Cody Johnson Songs

Cody Johnson is no stranger to the Texas country music scene. The musician started playing the guitar when he was just 12 years old and founded the Cody Johnson Band when he was 19. The Huntsville native has gone on to release multiple hits reflecting his Lone Star State allegiance, and his career just continues to impress. He's released all of his country albums independently prior to 2019.

The singer won Texas Regional Radio's Male Vocalist award in 2018 and continues to gain momentum outside of Texas after finally partnering with a major label. The COJO Nation fanbase is taking over! The singer used to be a professional rodeo rider and even wrote a song about it (which is included on our list of favorite songs below). After his stint on the rodeo, he spent time working as a prison guard in Huntsville while he played clubs on the weekends and built momentum on the country charts.

These are the seven best Cody Johnson songs to date, but we can't wait to see what new music the singer unveils.

7. "Dance Her Home"

This 2014 tune from Cowboy Like Me is a honky tonk mood. Try listening to this song and not wanting to go two-step. It's got a great beat, fun lyrics and is guaranteed to make you smile. What's not to love?

6. "With You I Am"

This song just reminds me of prime '90s country. This guy is an eloquent storyteller with some killer pipes. If I were you, I'd go listen to this song ASAP because it does not disappoint.

5. "Wild As You"

From 2016 albumGotta Be Methis is just a feel-good honky tonk love song."'Cause you belong where your heart can be/Out in the open, wild, and free/ Like a sweet summer rain, passing through/I ain't never seen anything wild as you"

4. "Nothin' On You"

This ballad is another strong song from Johnson's newest album Ain't Nothin' To It. Not only does it showcase his strong vocals, but it's a pretty steamy song. It adds another dimension to the singer's already strong repertoire and we love it.

3. "Dear Rodeo"

Singing about his past life as a full-time rodeo performer, Johnson sang this song to perfection at the Houston Rodeo in 2018. Did I mention he was the first independent artist to SELL OUT the Houston Rodeo? He had the biggest crowd at the entire event next to Garth Brooks. The man is impressive and this song just proves the point.

2. "On My Way To You"

This is just a pure country song that really showcases Johnson's strength as a singer and storyteller. This was the singer-songwriter's first release through his new partnership with a major label, Warner Music Nashville. It's a sweet song of following in love and leaves no question that Johnson will continue to dish out quality content as his career grows.

1. "Ain't Nothin' To It"

The title track and first single from Johnson's Ain't Nothin' to It was produced by fellow rodeo cowboy Trent Willmon. It's from the singer's first No. 1 on the Billboard Country Albums chart. Lyrically, it focuses on the journey through life to find his wife, and we love the sweet sincerity behind his words of this country ballad.

Honorable mention songs: "Monday Morning Merle," "Fenceposts," "Diamond in My Pocket" and "I Know My Way Back (Clara's Song)"
