Last week, a huge swath if the nation was baking under record-setting temperatures. Add high humidity to the mix, and conditions were dangerous for many people. Those in non-air conditioned environments for extended periods of time were especially at risk. However, a few days earlier, for one Texas woman, circumstances like those were actually life-threatening. With the mercury soaring past 100 degrees, she was stuck unseen in a sewage-filled ravine. Her scary plight went on for days. At last, by some amazing coincidence, the woman was finally rescued after an alert passerby heard her weak cries for help.

The Hapless Woman Was Literally Trapped
Per the New York Post, "At about 5:25 p.m. local time on June 28, a young man heard faint cries for help coming from a wooded area behind a nearby high school." He checked the sounds out and found the woman in frightening peril. Emergency responders then quickly made their way to the scene.
Dallas Fire-Rescue, plus the Dallas Police Department, had their work cut out for them. Not only was the woman "stuck in deep mud and sewage," per the outlet, but the temperature was 104. In fact, on top of all that, the rescue workers also had to cross a significant distance of very rugged terrain to access her.
They finally got to the woman. She was taken to a hospital for treatment of "severe dehydration, prolonged sun exposure and other injuries," per the Post. How she ended up in the ravine is not clear.
The Dallas Police Department Issued a Statement on Facebook
Following the incident and its successful outcome, the Dallas PD issued a statement on
Facebook. It said in part, "The well-being of the Dallas community is not something that's handled by a single agency. It takes a collaborative effort from multiple teams and organizations working side-by-side to ensure every person's safety...we would like to highlight a joint operation between the Dallas Police Department and Dallas Fire-Rescue that saved a young woman's life...."After a description of what happened, the statement concluded with this. "The Dallas Police Department would like to sincerely thank the officers, firefighters, and paramedics who took part in this rescue operation. Your swift action and joint effort saved a young woman who was in desperate need of help."
