Texas Teen And Boyfriend Arrested For Allegedly Killing Grandmother

When picturing grandmothers I imagine sweet older ladies baking fresh cookies in the kitchen. Similarly, I imagine their grandchildren all tugging on their with adoration and love. However, I guess that is the storybook version of grandparents and their grandchildren. In the real world, it is not always such a happy picture. That was proven when police found 61-year-old Tammy King dead at her home. A Texas teen and her boyfriend were arrested for allegedly killing the grandmother.

The Daily Mail reports that 17-year-old Tara King and her boyfriend, 18-year-old Uriah Urek, have been arrested. The police had been searching for the teens after receiving a call from one of Tammy King's friends. The concerned friend told law enforcement that she had not heard from her friend in quite a while.

When police went to conduct a wellness check, they found Tammy King dead in her home. The grandmother had clearly suffered from "at least one gunshot wound." Neighbors shared that Tammy had raised Tara and that both Tara and Uriah lived with her in the home.

While details about the murder and a motive have not yet been released, both the teen and her boyfriend are suspected of killing her grandmother. The pair were charged with capital murder and taken into custody.

Killings In The Family

While this news may be shocking to the average person, unfortunately family crime and murders are not as uncommon as we would all like to think. According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, "in 2002, 21.5% (1,958 victims) were killed by members of their family." Additionally, they share that women are much more likely to be victims of familial crime, much like this teen and her boyfriend killing her grandmother.

While the data is from 2002, it speaks volumes. "Females were 50.9% of the U.S. population in 2002 but 57.5% of the Nation's victims of family murder that year." Furthermore, "Family members were responsible for 43.1% of all the murders of females in 2002." Additionally, this is not the only instance of a teen killing their grandmother.

Back in November of 2024, Michael Alexander Ferguson was arrested for the murder of his grandmother as well. Similar to this case, Michael lived with his grandmother. While he denies any connection to his grandmother's death, he had previously spent two years in prison "as a result of assaulting two of his relatives."

However, much like this current case, until more details are provided, Michael was placed under arrest for the supposed murder of his grandmother. What a crazy world we live in.
