A Texas politician and her husband were both reportedly stabbed by their grandson on Monday. The husband died from his injuries.

According to a
press release by the Lewisville Police Department, the incident occurred early in the morning on Monday at around 3:50 AM. Officers for the Lewisville Police Department responded to a report of an 'assault in progress' at the couple's home. When officers arrived, they found a male and a female, both with stab wounds.The press release explains that another family member, their grandson, was found on the scene. Police arrested him without incident. The female victim is Denton County Commissioner for Precinct 3, Bobbie Mitchell. She is a former Lewisville City Council member and was the city's first Black mayor. Authorities identified her husband, Fred Mitchell, as the other victim.
Commissioner Mitchell is reportedly in a stable condition, and doctors are treating her for stab wounds at a local hospital. Unfortunately, her husband succumbed to his injuries. Authorities pronounced him deceased shortly after 5:00 AM.
The Grandson Faces Multiple Charges, Including Murder
The press release identifies the grandson as Mitchell Blake Reinacher. Authorities are holding him at the Lewisville jail. He is facing charges of Murder and Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon. His motive or what happened before the incident remains unclear, but crime scene investigators are combing the area for evidence.
Denton County has released a
statement on Facebook saying, "In light of the tragic news this morning, we would ask everyone to keep Precinct 3 Commissioner Bobbie J. Mitchell in their prayers." They also confirm that Mitchell is recovering from surgery and is in stable condition. A candlelit vigil was held on Monday at the Westside Baptist Church in support of the family.Per Fox News, the family also provided the following statement: "Our wonderful mother, Bobbie J. Mitchell, is expected to recover from the tragic events that occurred this morning. We are very thankful for the outreach everyone has extended to us on behalf of our family. Our mother offers her blessings to all who have reached out. We will provide updates on a later date for the funeral service for our beloved father, Fred Mitchell."
