Texas Cops Buy Child Seats for Struggling Family Instead of Issuing Fines

Cedar Park Police Department

A group of Texas police officers joined together to help a father who could not afford car seats for his three infant children.

According to NBC affiliate KXAN, Officer Justin Gower had pulled over the man before and knew he was working hard to try and afford the necessary safety devices for his one, three and four-year-olds. The family had previously been living in their car, and Gower knew that fining them would only set them back further.

“They’re going in the right direction, and to issue them three citations for each child would just devastate them,” Officer Gower said.

Gower knew something needed to be done to prevent any harm from happening to the man’s children  while riding in the car. “I was upset because it’s extremely dangerous. I have kids and I know how fragile they are, especially how young these kids were.”
Instead of issuing tickets, Gower and other officers from the Cedar Park Police Department pooled their money together to buy three car seats for the family. The father was shocked by the cops’ incredible gesture, and told Gower their act “was nothing short of a miracle.”

“Money is not the issue, it’s the issue of can you help them, and so that was the easiest way we saw the fastest path to helping them,” said Officer Hawkins.
