George Strait Was Just Named 2018 Texan of the Year

Country superstar George Strait just snagged a huge honor from his home state. According to the New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce, the accomplished 65-year-old has been named the 2018 Texan of the Year by the Texas Legislative Conference. He'll be officially presented with the award at the New Braunfels Civic and Convention Center on March 22.

His incredible career and return to live performances were enough to put him in the running. But it was Strait's efforts to help the Lone Star State after Hurricane Harvey that earned him the Texan of the Year title.

"No one has done more than George Strait to raise awareness and funds for the Hurricane Harvey relief efforts," Doug Miller, Conference Chair and former Texas State Representative, said in a statement. "He put his well-earned reputation on the line and asked not only his fellow Texans to step up, but all Americans. And they have."

Strait will join the ranks of many U.S. Presidents, Senators and other influential businessmen who were previously named Texan of the Year. Earlier this year, he was also named 2017's Texas State Musician by the Texas State Legislature.

Do you want to see the country star receive his award in-person? You can snag a limited amount of tickets to the ceremony by calling the Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce at (830) 608-2816.
