A Texas high school baseball player and his parents perished after an 18-wheeler struck their vehicle on their way to a game. The

Superintendent Duana Brashear shared the heartbreaking news. "It is with overwhelming sadness that I share the tragic loss of Connor McCaffety," she wrote. "On Monday, March 31, Connor and his family were involved in a devastating accident on HWY 36 in Milano. Connor, his mother Meghan, and father, Clint, did not survive." The family was traveling from Connor's golf tournament in Brenham to a baseball game in Rogers when the crash occurred.
A Fatal Collision
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) detailed the incident in an email to PEOPLE on Thursday. Clint McCaffety, 43, drove a Ford sedan stopped at a construction flagger's direction on the westbound lane. A Kia SUV, driven by a 45-year-old woman, halted behind them. A 2025 Freightliner truck, operated by a 26-year-old from Bellmead, Texas, approached the stationary vehicles. "For reasons unknown, the driver failed to control speed and collided with the two vehicles," the DPS stated. The impact pushed the Kia into a ditch, where it rolled over.
Clint died in the collision, while Meghan, 39, and Connor were pronounced dead at the scene. The Kia driver received hospital treatment. The DPS continues its investigation into the crash.
Community Mourns Family
The McCafferys leave behind a 14-year-old daughter, Kelsey, who was not in the car. Brashear pledged ongoing support, noting, "Counselors will be available on all campuses." She urged, "Please keep this family in your prayers. Love each other."
Connor's team, GPS Legends Baseball, grieved online. "It is with extremely heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of beloved GPS family members Connor, Clint & Meghan McCaffety," the post read. "Please keep younger sister Kelsey in your prayers." Founder Brandon Puffer told KWTX, "Connor was a fierce competitor ... and such a great teammate," crediting his parents' dedication. The team plans to honor Connor by hanging his jersey in the dugout each game day, a tribute to a family lost too soon.
