What Led to the Amazon Worker's Death?
As reported by the New York Post, the teen girl allegedly pushed 29-year-old Kyle Bickham from a moving CTA Red Line train on Sep. 7. She was arrested on Friday, Sep. 11, according to the Chicago Police Department.
Authorities have not released the girl's name because of her age. Police identified her as a missing person from Chicago's south suburbs. She is being charged with first-degree murder, mob action, murder by other forcible felony, and aggravated battery to a transit employee.
Three people, including the teen, forcefully shoved Bickham during the afternoon altercation, causing him to fall onto the third rail. He was then hit by an oncoming train, according to police.
According to his family, Bickham was coming home after working an overnight shift at an Amazon warehouse. The youngest of four siblings, they said he was building a future for himself and cared deeply for his family.
His father said, "It's the most hurtful thing that has ever happened... He loved writing poetry. He loved us. He loved both of his nieces, his brothers, his sister; he just was [an] all-around caring guy."
A Family Member Called the Alleged Murderers "Evil"
Bickham, who had just moved to an apartment, worked a difficult schedule at Amazon to pay the bills. His family said they can't understand what would prompt anyone to hurt their son.
His mother said, "He was just trying to make an honest day's living, and this is what happened."
Added his grandmother, "If you're that evil, to open a door and throw somebody, a live person out, what's wrong with you? This guy was so kind."
She added, "He's full of love. He always expresses [it], even to me. If he didn't have a phone, he gonna make a way to call me to say, 'Granny, you know I love you so much.' He always reaches out to me to say, 'Granny? You know God got you. And I love you so much.'"
Police are searching for the two others involved in the incident.
