Andrew Hardwick, Taylor Swift’s high school crush and the inspiration behind “Teardrops On My Guitar,” was arrested this past Saturday in Hendersonville, Tennessee on charges of child abuse.
Hardwick allegedly struck both the 3-year-old and a 5-year-old girl who was also present. Three other family members were in the home at the time, Andrew’s wife, Joni, and relatives Christopher and Amber Hardwick. Affidavits filed in Sumner County General Sessions Court said the 5-year-old came downstairs and told them that Andrew had struck both girls in the face.
Christopher found Andrew with blood on his hands and called police. He told authorities both he and Andrew had been drinking “large amounts” of alcohol since earlier that afternoon. Police said Christopher “appeared intoxicated with bloodshot and glossy eyes” and exhibited “belligerent” behavior.
Three of the adults were arrested. Andrew has been charged with aggravated child abuse and child abuse, Christopher with assault and disorderly conduct, and Joni with simple assault on an officer and resisting arrest.
Joni was released on Sunday, Dec. 27 on a $1,000 bond and Drew was released on a $100,000 bond on Monday, Dec. 28. Both are scheduled to appear in court in February. Christopher received a citation and will appear in court in late January.
As of Monday, the 3-year-old still remained hospitalized and the investigation is still ongoing.
