During her Songwriters Hall of Fame induction speech, Taylor Swift quoted John Dutton from 'Yellowstone' in a relatable moment
Taylor Swift knows how to work her way into our hearts. She's done it for years: from catchy lyrics to her humble demeanor, it's hard to find a reason to dislike her. During her recent induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Swift once again found a way to connect with millions of her fans.
During the speech, she quoted John Dutton from the smash hit show Yellowstone.
"It's hard to harden yourself to certain brutal elements of this world,"
Swift's speech then continued to elaborate on why she chose to lean into a pop-culture quote, and how it related to her point.
"John Dutton was talking about a ranch. I'm using this quote to refer to self-worth, peace of mind and singular vision as a creator," she said. "If you make anything awesome, someone out there is bound to say horrible things about it. Or twist what you meant into something completely unrecognizable to you. You can be sensitive but also durable... take what's useful and constructive and leave out what's damaging to your creativity."
Wise words from Swift, and honestly, a sentiment that we can all learn from, regardless of our line of work.
Swift's speech marked a historic moment for her, her career, and women in music. By being inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame, she became the youngest woman to achieve the feat. She was part of an inductee class that also boasted titans such as Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Alanis Morissette and Tricky Stewart, among others.
At just 36 years old, Swift has so much success in front of her that it's scary. She's breaking records left and right, and proving that there's no ceiling on the level of success you can enjoy.
So, maybe like Swift, we should all take a moment to learn from John Dutton. It's clearly worked for her.
