Per People, Sheridan recently talked about why he deliberately selects "inhospitable places" to film his shows. He delivered his remarks on the topic on Monday, March 9, in New York City at the premiere of The Madison at Lincoln Center. The compelling drama, which stars Kurt Russell and Michelle Pfeiffer, was filmed largely on location in Montana.

If what Taylor Sheridan aims for is raw, gritty realism, he absolutely nailed it.

Sheridan Said the Show Is "Very Emotionally Taxing"

The mastermind behind Yellowstone said, "To make a project for me is really difficult because I choose really inhospitable places to film. It's miserable. It's a very emotionally taxing project, this one, because it's about grief and family and tearing apart and coming back together. It demanded a lot from everyone."

Sheridan also modestly deflected the credit to others. "I can come up with any cockamamie idea I want. I don't make anything; I write things down and then I bring together a cast and a crew and I ask them to go make it." Sheridan expressed his appreciation to the crew, Christina Voros, the director, and his wife, Nicole Muirbrook.

Matthew Fox portrays Paul Clyburn on the drama. He is really enthused about being in Montana to film. Per the outlet, he said, "I grew up in Northwestern Wyoming, just south of where the Madison is in Montana. And I grew up in the Wind River Valley. Honestly, the kind of vistas that you see, the kind of landscape is very, very similar. So it felt like I was just home, and I love that."

The Director Contrasted the Locations of 'Yellowstone' and 'The Madison'

Christina Voros spoke at The Madison gala about the difference between the locations of Yellowstone and the new series. "It's a very different look. It's a very different feel being down in the Madison River Valley. It's just a completely different language of nature in that space. And it was exciting to explore a different ecosystem."
