Inside Taylor Sheridan's $264 Million Bosque Ranch Where 'Yellowstone' Is Filmed

He may be a media mogul, but "Yellowstone" creator Taylor Sheridan is as cowboy as they come. The 53-year-old actor-turned-producer divides his time between the historic 6666 Ranch in the Texas Panhandle and Bosque Ranch, a 600-acre property in Weatherford, Texas that serves as Sheridan's part-time home, a filming location for "Yellowstone" and "1883" and a premiere equine facility.

Worth an estimated $264 million, Bosque Ranch (pronounced "boss-key") is a cattle and horse ranch nestled in the rolling hills above the Brazos River. Taylor Sheridan made his home there in 2013, keen to move his family from Los Angeles to Texas. You've likely seen the 'Bosque Ranch' production company logo emblazoned on any number of Sheridan's film and TV projects. The massive compound has served as the backdrop for much of "Yellowstone" and its Paramount+ spinoff series.

Sheridan's shows even source horses, cattle and horse wranglers from among his stock at Bosque Ranch, closing the loop on the prolific producer's TV empire. Studios have reportedly paid $50k/week to shoot on-location at Sheridan's Bosque and Four Sixes Ranches, with Paramount shelling out $500 million/year in total on all "Yellowstone" titles. From the script to the screen, Taylor Sheridan's brand is all over his entertainment.

But Bosque Ranch isn't just a one-man kingdom or even a spectacular filming location. It's also a home base for the performance horse industry, hosting weekend cutting events and competitions — including the annual Brazos Bash. In a statement shared on the Bosque Ranch Headquarters website, Sheridan describes his goal of revitalizing performance horsemanship as something akin to revitalizing the Western genre or kicking off a career renaissance for "Yellowstone" star Kevin Costner:

"In my 'other' job, I am a star maker and a career reviver," the statement reads. "I will do the same in this space — I will make stars of the horses and stars of the riders. I will continue to attract new participants to these various disciplines, but more importantly, I will continue creating an experience that captivates an audience."

And Bosque Ranch is the HQ from which Sheridan plans to achieve that goal. From a saloon-style Western bar and restaurant to an arena in honor of the late legend Buster Welch, Bosque Ranch is a cowboy paradise. How you gonna keep 'em down on the farm? Once they see Bosque Ranch, they'll never want to leave the farm.

Step inside one of the Bosque Ranch Headquarters buildings and you're transported to the Old West. One long hallway is lined with black-and-white landscape shots and anchored by two custom horse head benches.

While Sheridan has described Bosque Ranch as his main business headquarters, the prolific producer managed to incorporate touching tributes to his family throughout the public-facing facilities. On one wall, a vintage 'Cowgirl Motel' sign is surrounded by personal photographs of Sheridan and his wife, former actress and model Nicole Muirbrook, 40. The couple shares a 12-year-old-son named Gus.

Having grown up riding in Wyoming, Muirbrook is a skilled horsewoman in her own right. In 2020, she won the Careity Foundation celebrity cutting event to benefit cancer patients.

Sheridan even named the Bosque Ranch saloon 'Nic's Bar' after his wife Nicole. The massive watering hole and full-service eatery offers views of the indoor arena. It also serves as an event space for corporate sponsors and charity galas. According to the Bosque Ranch website, Nic's Bar is a "spot for drinks, food and dancing, while also offering a private event space to host cast and crew parties, special events and more in an authentic, warm environment."

Sheridan's other half Nicole isn't the only one with honorary status at Bosque Ranch. The "Yellowstone" creator also paid tribute to the famed Texas horse trainer Buster Welch, naming the main arena after the late legend. Prior to his death in 2022, Welch made a cameo appearance at the 6666 Ranch in "Yellowstone" Season 4.

Bosque Ranch features state-of-the-art facilities for performance horse training and competing — an industry close to Sheridan's heart. "My goal with Bosque Ranch is to create an experience for the spectator while greatly enhancing the opportunities for the riders," he said in a statement on the ranch's website. To that end, Bosque Ranch hosts the National Cutting Horse Association's annual Brazos Bash, as well as Youth Cutting competitions and celebrations.

Across the 600-acre property, you'll find stables and arenas with room to spare. There's even a baseball field, complete with a scoreboard, for when break time calls for more friendly competition.

Bosque Ranch has allowed Sheridan to keep his TV productions pretty much in-house. Both "Yellowstone" and "1883" were filmed partially on the property, and the horses and cattle you see in Sheridan's shows are his own. The producer charges Paramount $25-a-head for cattle and $2,000-a-head for horses, according to The Wall Street Journal.
