Tennessee Highway Patrol
posted to Facebook about a tanker truck that overturned on Highway 340, at the county line between Greene County and Cocke County. This happened on January 4.The vehicle contained "thousands of gallons of liquid chocolate," which likely created a stream that would make Augustus Gloop drool.
It's unknown what caused the tanker to overturn. No other casualties or incidents were reported, so it's thankfully isolated and has caused no further harm. The same can't be said for the driver, however.
State troopers accompanied the first responders from both counties to assess and sort the altercation.
The driver had to be airlifted, likely due to being stuck in the tanker. WVLT reported that the driver was injured in the accident, and was airlifted to the UT Medical Center. The driver's current condition remains unknown.
At the time, the incident caused closures and traffic was rerouted. Business on the roads should be back to normal by now, however.
Cleanup continued into the following day, with traffic continuing to be rerouted.
No other details have been shared or reported. The only other thing harmed was the experience of those holding any Golden Tickets. The chocolate waterfall is the star attraction, and it was running a little low after the mishap.
Rocky Roads Could Be Blamed For Chocolate Tanker Overturning
I could make a million of these puns, although this one has a little truth behind it.
One user provided some helpful insight when commenting under the Facebook announcement. Someone wrote, "Semis always wreck there. The road is too narrow when entering Greene County." Perhaps a sign should be put up at the very least if this is a common occurrence. If there isn't one already.
Of course, the comment section was full of other amusing comments. Hilariously, the top comment under the announcement was aptly, "Willy Wonka is gonna be p---ed." Classic.
I hope the driver adequately recovered in hospital, and that their injuries weren't too severe. In cases like this, no news is usually good news, however.
