Nassau County police said a 67-year-old woman driving a Volkswagen SUV crashed through the office's front entrance. The cause of the crash remains unclear.

Images from the scene show the vehicle's headlight driven directly into the office's front desk, shattering glass and sending debris flying through the lobby. The mangled glass door flew down a hallway inside the office.

Both the woman and the child were inside the office at the time of the crash and sustained minor injuries. First responders transported them to a nearby hospital but they are in stable condition, according to Nassau police. Despite the chaos inside the office, workers in the surrounding strip mall stores reported not hearing or feeling anything until emergency crews arrived at the scene.

SUV Driver, Boy OK

The driver of the SUV remained at the location after the crash and was uninjured. Authorities are continuing to investigate the collision. But no additional details have been released.

By 12:30 p.m., emergency personnel had removed the vehicle from the building and began boarding up the damaged office. The crash has left the pediatric dentistry office temporarily closed, and authorities are working to assess the full extent of the damage.

Interestingly, news of vehicles crashing into storefronts seems to be more commonplace lately. Perhaps storefronts should come with large concrete barriers in front of them (many already do). Of course,m that would come at an added expense for most businesses. But hey, it may be worth it.

Either way, despite the heavy damage in this one, the injuries sustained were described as minor, and the situation could have been much worse.
