Song Premiere: Susan Gibson's Tenacious 'The Hard Stuff'

Texas-based singer-songwriter Susan Gibson offers hard-won advice on the horn-laden title track to her forthcoming album The Hard Stuff (out on October 4).

"Quit looking for loopholes and get to the hard stuff," Gibson sings. "If that doesn't kill ya I guess you're strong enough to stick it out."

Gibson, who penned the Dixie Chicks' "Wide Open Spaces," says the song was inspired by her own response to fear and uncertainty.

"I have heard that the three responses to fear are to fight, to fly and to freeze. I am a flyer," Gibson says. "I usually like to plan my escape before I even sense that there's trouble. I have always wanted a song with a horn section on it. I love how this one came out."
