On the Wednesday (October 7) episode of the reality show, the Savu Tribe returned after a chaotic tribal council. Contestant Ana Sani had to depart from the Island. Her elimination came after Rob Antonson tried to sacrifice himself. But one loophole prevented him from doing so. That being the golden rule that Survivor contestants are not allowed to eliminate themselves from the game via self-voting.
Survivor Contestant Voluntarily Exits After Alleged Foot Injury
During Wednesday's airing, Antonson said that the one thing keeping him going was not wanting to "just quit" the competition.
The airline agent expressed that he felt like his deciding to quit would "ruin the game," but if he were to have to bow out due to "medical reasons," it would be something "totally different."
Shortly after expressing this, Antonson revealed that he was experiencing an "extreme" level of discomfort. In his foot and leg. He told others that he believed that the injury occurred when he stepped on something in the ocean during one of the previous challenges. And that it had caused him to have an "infection up to [his] knee."
The following day, Survivor host Jeff Probst, along with a member of the reality show's medical staff, visited with Antonson. To determine the severity of the injury. The doctor informed him that when it comes to cuts, there is "always that risk" of infection. And thus Antonson decided to depart from the contest.
Probst later said that the Survivor 51 contestant's decision to leave caught him "off guard." He cited the fact that he never requested medical assistance after he alleged that he stepped on something in the ocean. He felt it was "unusual." He said that the doctor "couldn't find medical evidence of anything wrong."
Probst also said that Antonson's teammates made it "clear" that they felt that he "engineered a quit."
