‘Superman’ Star Reveals Injuries He Suffered Playing NFL Player in New Movie

The 'Superman' star admitted that the movie superhero didn't exactly do a lot of running... can you guess the injuries he endured on set for this movie?

Superman star David Corenswet has opened up about some of the injuries he's had to endure whilst shooting for a new movie. As reported by People, he stars as the late NFL legend John Tuggle in his biopic, Mr. Irrelevant.

Of course, like any character, he had to transform his body a little (a lot!) to completely become Tuggle. It's a process he's used to from other films like Superman - after all, it can't be that much harder turning yourself into an NFL player than it was to become a literal superhuman... right?

"The familiar part was just putting on a lot of weight," he recalled. "I had just done that for Superman and so I knew a basic plan on how to make that happen."

But the problem actually came from the "functional training". That was a lot different than the superhero flick - as he puts it, "Superman doesn't do much running and Tuggle did a lot of running... I hadn't sprinted in, you know, a decade." That meant "shin splints" for the entire production!

He Made the Transformation From 'Superman' to Super NFL Star

Now, for those of you that haven't heard of NFL legend John Tuggle, he had a pretty iconic look. Think a rugged hairdo and a mustache.

Well, that was something Corenswet had to perfect (with a little help from the makeup department, of course). "It all came together with the mustache and hair," he admitted.

But it was a more unexpected aspect that gave Corenswet that Mr. Irrelevant charm. "Tuggle's very charming dialect," he agreed. "We had some great interviews of his that he gave."

Tuggle's story is one for the ages. Which is exactly the reason why there's a movie being made about his legacy. The NFL legend tragically passed away from cancer at only 25. Reflecting on this, Corenswet says, "The most important impact we can have in our lives are the people who we get to spend our time with."

"[John had] a great impact... on such legendary people and coaches and the wonderful people in his life, his family, his fiancée... That's really all that's relevant."
