Super Bowl Winner Robbed At Gunpoint Day Before Birthday

Armed gunmen stormed into the home of former Seattle Seahawks star and Super Bowl winner Richard Sherman on Sunday, his 37th birthday, while his family was inside. Sherman shared chilling security camera footage of the break-in on social media, sparking widespread concern.

The King County Sheriff's Office reported the intrusion occurred just after midnight. "House being robbed at gunpoint with my family in it isn't what anyone wants for a birthday gift," Sherman posted. He praised his wife's composure, noting, "She handled it masterfully and kept my kids safe." Sherman urged anyone with information to come forward. Authorities have made no arrests and identified no suspects.

Sherman, a standout cornerback, rose to fame after the Seahawks drafted him in the fifth round out of Stanford in 2011. He anchored the team's famed "Legion of Boom" defense for seven seasons, earning three first-team All-Pro nods and five Pro Bowl selections.

In 2014, he helped Seattle clinch a Super Bowl victory. Later, Sherman played three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers and wrapped up his NFL career with a short stint in Tampa Bay. Now, he analyzes games as a commentator for Amazon Prime's Thursday Night Football.

The break-in follows a disturbing trend targeting high-profile athletes. In February, federal prosecutors charged seven Chilean nationals with burglarizing the homes of NFL and NBA stars. The group allegedly hit the residences of other Super Bowl winners -- such as Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce, stealing jewelry, watches, cash, and luxury goods. At one point, they also ransacked the home of Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow.

Sherman's security footage shows the gunmen moving swiftly. Sherman and his family remain shaken but safe, grateful for his wife's quick thinking amid the chaos. The sheriff's office continues to investigate.

Per ABC News: "Sherman won a Super Bowl with the Seahawks in 2014. He later played for the San Francisco 49ers for three seasons and finished his career with a brief stint in Tampa Bay. He currently works as a TV commentator for Amazon Prime's Thursday Night Football."
