Strangers Raise $500K For 78-Year-Old Tennessee DoorDash Driver

The elderly couple revealed that they were DoorDashing to make ends meet. They were forced to come out of retirement.

We all know that DoorDash driving is hard, grueling work. Long hours with no secure pay, inconsistent tips. Things are always constantly in the air for them. And it's especially heartbreaking when you see an elderly man outside your door delivering your Starbucks.

But, as it turns out, things can be done to help them. As reported by the New York Post, half a million dollars have been raised for 78 year-old Richard Pulley and his wife. This comes after the man was spotted delivering a Starbucks order to Brittany Smith's house on the morning of Tuesday March 10.

A video doorbell captured him hesitating before walking up the steps to the house, almost losing his footing before bending down to drop off the order. But, Smith uploaded the sad video to her TikTok page, and it went viral.

Smith was determined to locate Pulley, who she branded "Richard the Starbucks Delivery Man". And, thanks to the help of Internet sleuths, he was tracked down in a few hours. She also created a GoFundMe for the couple to "Help Richard go back into retirement!!". And, as of Friday, the campaign has raised almost half a million dollars.

Richard Pulley Revealed Why He Was DoorDash-ing In the First Place

An elderly man DoorDashing you your drinks isn't really something you see every day. There's got to be a good reason behind it, right? And it turns out he had a pretty darn good one!

Pulley said in an interview that he and his wife Brenda have been doing DoorDash for over a year. Brenda was sadly fired from her job last year, "at no fault of her own". Brenda did the driving, and Richard did the food drop-offs. "When you're past your mid-80s, there's not exactly a line of people waiting to hire you," Brenda also said.

And, after Smith showed them the fundraiser after meeting them at a local fast food joint, they expressed their thanks. They were in shock!

"It's just really difficult to believe that there's that many people that are that generous to try to help us... People that don't even know us." God bless them both!
