The Aerosmith Frontman Maintains His Innocence
A lawsuit was filed against Tyler in 2022 alleging that the singer had a sexual relationship with the plaintiff, Julia Misley, while she was a teenager in the 1970s.
Court documents from earlier this year show that much of the suit has been dismissed. However, one claim in Misley's complaint has moved forward.
In that claim, Misley accuses Tyler of intentional infliction of emotional distress. It alleges that in 1974, the singer dragged Misley naked through a hotel and down to a pool to have sex in a public hot tub. She was 16 at the time.
The suit also claims that by June 1975, Misley and Tyler were "engaged to be married, expecting a child, and still living together in Massachusetts."
The now-78-year-old says his relationship with Misley was consensual throughout. He says her parents signed over custody to him "so I wouldn't get arrested if I took her out of state."
What's the Latest Development in the Case Against Steven Tyler?
Less than two weeks before the trial against Tyler was set to begin, Judge Patricia A. Young recused herself. As reported by Page Six, Lawrence Riff, the supervising judge of the civil division at the Los Angeles Superior Court, is now hearing the case.
A source told the outlet that the change doesn't affect Tyler's case. His legal team feels Riff is fair and well-educated. The Aerosmith frontman says he is "confident" that the facts will win out.
The case is now scheduled to be heard in November.
A separate sexual assault lawsuit against Tyler was filed and then dismissed in 2023. A New York judge ruled the plaintiff waited too long to bring the allegations to light.
